Abstract
The purpose of this study is to clarify relations among university students¡¯motives of drinking, adjustment to college life, dysfunctional beliefs, and problematic drinking, and test mediating effects of drinking motives and college life adjustment with dysfunctional beliefs in relation with problematic drinking. For this purpose, a questionnaire survey was conducted on 633 students from 4 universities located in Gyeongsang-do, and data were collected through a self?reporting survey using questionnaires on drinking motives, university students¡¯ adjustment to college life, and dysfunctional beliefs. The subjects were divided into two groups using the AUDIT-K scale, and 245 of them were classified into the group of problematic drinking students. When the two groups were compared, the problematic drinking group showed lower scores than those without in impaired autonomy and performance of adjustment to college life. In addition, the former showed drinking motives and dysfunctional beliefs than the latter. And, according to the results of mediating analysis for finding factors discriminating the two groups, it turned out that dysfunctional beliefs did not mediate in the normal drinking group, but they had partial mediating effects on the influence on problematic drinking in both drinking motives and adjustment to college life in the problematic drinking group. In conclusion, limitations and suggestion for future study suggested.
